Its Medicare drug plans don't cover GLP-1s for weight loss alone; the $50 Bridge runs beside them through CMS, not Humana.

Humana is mostly a Medicare company now, so its GLP-1 documents are Medicare documents. The first thing they say is the Medicare rule: a standard Part D plan doesn't cover a GLP-1 only for weight loss.

The second thing is the exception that isn't Humana's. From July 1, 2026 the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge lets eligible Part D members get Foundayo, Wegovy or the Zepbound KwikPen for a $50 copay, and Humana's own page says the prior authorization goes to a CMS central processor, outside the Part D benefit.

Humana completed its exit from employer-group commercial medical coverage during 2025, according to its 2025 annual report. That exit included fully insured, self-funded and federal employee medical plans. It was separate from Humana's Medicare business.

Does a Humana Part D plan cover Wegovy or Zepbound for weight loss?

Not as part of the plan. Humana says so in plain words, and its 2026 prior-authorization criteria for Ozempic, Mounjaro, Rybelsus and Trulicity each list weight loss as an exclusion. Pharmacies have to enter a diagnosis code for a medically accepted use when they fill a GLP-1.

We also searched five of Humana's 2026 Part D documents — one Medicare Advantage drug guide and its criteria, three standalone drug-plan guides and their basic criteria — for Wegovy, Zepbound, Saxenda and Foundayo, and found none of them. That's our reading of those five documents, not a statement Humana makes.

How does the $50 Bridge work with a Humana plan?

You have to be enrolled in Part D, but the Bridge runs outside the Part D payment flow. Your doctor sends the prior authorization and the prescription to a CMS central processor. It runs through December 31, 2027.

What these documents cannot tell you

Everything above is what Humana publishes for Medicare. It says nothing about a Humana employer plan, and it covers only the formularies we opened.

  • We read one Medicare Advantage formulary and three standalone drug-plan guides. Other Humana formularies, special-needs plans and group Medicare plans weren't checked.
  • The Bridge is a CMS program. Humana's plan doesn't decide it, and its approval runs through a CMS processor.
  • The annual report resolves the timing of Humana's commercial employer-plan exit. It does not establish drug coverage for a group Medicare plan; that plan's own Evidence of Coverage still governs.
  • None of this is legal or medical advice. Your plan's Evidence of Coverage and your notice govern your case.
