Answer

What does the Wegovy pill cost, with and without insurance?

13 documents cited · Read September 2026

The short answer

Paying cash, the Wegovy pill costs $149 a month at the 1.5 mg starting dose, $199 at 4 mg and $299 at 9 and 25 mg. Commercial coverage can bring it to $25; Medicare's Bridge charges $50.

What does each dose cost if you pay cash?

Novo Nordisk sells the pill self-pay through NovoCare, and the price climbs with the dose. A month is one bottle of 30 tablets.

The $149 price covers only the starting dose now. A $149 offer on 4 mg ended with prescriptions written by August 31, 2026 and shipped by September 30. The label's maintenance dose is 25 mg, so $299 is the long-run cash price for most people.

Wegovy pill self-pay price, one month (30 tablets)
DosePriceThree months
1.5 mg$149$447
4 mg$199$597
9 mg$299$897
25 mg$299$897

Read at NovoCare in September 2026. NovoCare is cash only and doesn't take insurance.

Is TrumpRx cheaper?

No. TrumpRx lists the same $149, $199 and $299 prices as an out-of-pocket coupon you present at a pharmacy, and it excludes government beneficiaries. Costco's member prices for the pill match too.

Either way, cash you spend outside insurance doesn't count toward your deductible or out-of-pocket limit.

What does the savings offer pay if you have insurance?

If your commercial plan covers the pill, you can pay as little as $25 a month. The offer pays up to $100 for a one-month fill, $200 for two and $300 for three, so $25 isn't guaranteed if your share is higher. Novo says the offer can change without notice.

Watch the government rule. If you have a job-based plan and Medicare or Medicaid as well, Novo treats you as government-insured and the $25 offer is off. Federal employee, marketplace and state employee plans don't count as government plans for this offer.

Will your plan cover the pill if it covers the injection?

Don't assume it. A formulary can list the tablets and the pen as separate products, so search your plan's drug list for "Wegovy tablets" by name. Where both are covered, the rules can still match: UnitedHealthcare's program gives the same five-month first approval to Wegovy injection or tablet.

If your plan excludes weight-loss drugs altogether, the pill is excluded with it. The label also approves the tablets to reduce heart risk in adults with heart disease, which some plans cover separately.

Can you get the pill for $50 on Medicare?

Yes, if you qualify for the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge. CMS lists Wegovy tablets as an eligible drug for weight reduction, at a $50 monthly copay from July 1, 2026 through December 31, 2027. Your prescriber attests that you meet its BMI criteria.

The $50 doesn't count toward your Part D out-of-pocket total, and Novo's $25 offer can't be used on Medicare.

Pill or injection: which costs you less?

Paying cash, the pill is cheaper at every stage. The injection starts at $199 a month for two fills if you're new, then $349; the pill starts at $149 and tops out at $299. The high-dose Wegovy HD pen is $399.

Self-pay price per month, pill versus pen
StageWegovy pillWegovy pen
Starting dose$149 (1.5 mg)$199 for two fills if new, then $349
Maintenance$299 (25 mg)$349 (2.4 mg)

NovoCare prices, read September 2026. Price only; which form suits you is a question for your prescriber.

What's the list price, and is it changing?

Novo lists the pill at $1,349.02 a package, the same as the pen. It has announced a cut to $675 for the 25 mg tablet from January 1, 2027, and says the cut doesn't change self-pay prices. A list-price cut can still lower what you pay under insurance if your plan bills coinsurance or a deductible against it.

What to ask your plan or pharmacy

Does my plan cover Wegovy tablets, not just the injection? Is there a prior authorization, and what does my plan charge per month? If I use Novo's savings offer, what will I pay at the counter?

If your plan doesn't cover it, compare its answer with NovoCare's cash price before you fill. Write down the date and the name of the person you spoke with.

First approvals are short and renewal is measured. The program issues five months for "Wegovy injection or tablet, Wegovy HD", six for "Foundayo, Xenical or Zepbound", four for Contrave, Qsymia or Saxenda, and three for the older stimulant appetite suppressants. To reauthorize, most drugs need "Weight loss of ≥ 5% of baseline body weight" — 3 percent for Qsymia, 4 percent for Saxenda — plus continued lifestyle modification, and the renewal then runs twelve months.
