Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas
Covers Wegovy and the Zepbound auto-injector only for groups that elect GLP-1 coverage, and excludes the Zepbound KwikPen.
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas marks Wegovy and Zepbound on its drug list as group-specific: they're covered only where the employer group elected GLP-1 coverage for weight management.
Within those groups the form matters. BCBSTX excluded the Zepbound KwikPen, which it says is sold only direct to consumers, and kept the Zepbound auto-injector. Foundayo was still under review for a spot on the list in May 2026, with exception requests open.
What the spring 2026 update changed
The May 2026 update for self-funded groups excluded the Zepbound KwikPen, added Wegovy HD beside the other Wegovy strengths, and opened coverage-exception requests for Foundayo while it's reviewed.
We found no BCBSTX document setting out the BMI or renewal criteria behind these approvals; the Prime Therapeutics criteria weren't linked from the pages we checked.

"To give clarity across distribution channels for members, Zepbound Kwikpen, which is available only through direct‑to‑consumer pathways, has been excluded from coverage. For groups electing GLP-1 coverage, Zepbound auto‑injection remains covered on our drug lists."

What these documents cannot tell you
Everything above is what Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas publishes. None of it establishes what your own plan does, and the gap between those two things is wider than a carrier policy makes it look.
- Whether your group elected GLP-1 coverage isn't public. Your benefit booklet or HR can tell you.
- The spring 2026 update is written for self-funded groups; a fully insured plan can differ.
- The clinical criteria Prime applies weren't published where we could read them.
- None of this is legal or medical advice. Your plan documents and your notice govern your case.
